Homeopathy - Complementary Medicine in Surrey
Holistic TherapiesHomeopathy is a complete system of complementary medicine which aims to promote general health by re-inforcing the body′s own natural healing capacity.
Homeopathy is about treating the person not the disease. Its about strengthening the person themselves, their immune system or constitution to fend off possible illness. We all have this healing energy: a vital natural force; though sometimes it is weakened and unbalanced through everyday stresses and strains and illness, the energy becomes weaker and we become susceptable to disease.
We all have particular strengths and weaknesses and no two individuals react in the same way to illnesses even though it has the same disease label. Two people may each have a cold but will produce different symptoms and respond to remedies in different ways. This is where the Homeopathic Law of Similars becomes apparent.
History of HomeopathyA German Physician called Samuel Hahnemann discovered the principle of Homeopathy in the late18th century and developed it into the treatment practiced today. Like Hippocrates 2000 years earlier, he realised that medicine can be prescribed according to the Law of Similars, ‘like cures like′.
Substances which could cause symptoms of disease in a healthy person given in large doses, can also cure a sick person given in minute doses. For example chopping a red onion causes stinging eyes, runny nose, sneezing. These same symptoms can also be present in some forms of hayfever so Allium Cepa (red onion) would be the prescribed remedy.
Hahnemann realised that by treating people in the ‘like cures like′ principle, it would be more effective and have less side effects.
Unfortunately today as soon as our body sends us signals of imbalance we reach for the anti-inflammatory, anti-biotics, anti-depressants too frequently possibly stopping the body′s natural healing response and storing or suppressing the underlying cause of the disease that could be unwise in the long term. Homeopathy is an alternative system of medicine that seeks to avoid these issues.
